PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative prepares for Annual Stockholders Meeting

The PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative, Inc. will host its Annual Stockholders Meeting during the weekend of March 23-25, 2012, at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, Florida.

“This is an exciting time for the PURE Co-op, so we expect a good turnout for the Annual Stockholders Meeting, especially with another great location in Orlando selected by our planning committee,” says Frank Dotson, general manager of the PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative. “We also hope that the industry will take notice of the current enhancements our Board has provided for the Co-op, which are well underway to improve our competiveness in the marketplace.”

?image2 During the Annual Stockholders Meeting, PURE members will gather to receive feedback on their financial investment in the Co-op, which should include reports on contracted volumes achieved for the year. The Stockholders Meeting also typically includes updates on supply arrangements from consultants at Professional Energy Management (PEM) and improvements to Co-op operations that will allow PURE to become a price maker instead of a price taker in the petroleum marketing business, says Dotson.

The opening reception of the PURE Annual Stockholders Meeting will feature a vendor trade show, where the authorized vendors of PURE products and services will be on hand to share their latest offerings available to PURE members. The event’s opening reception, on Friday evening March 23, is being sponsored by PEM, while the dinner that evening is being sponsored by TransMontaigne, Inc.

?image3 The weekend gathering will conclude with the Annual Stockholders Meeting on Saturday morning March 24, following by the first quarter meeting for 2012 of the PURE Board of Directors. The breakfast that morning is being sponsored by Federated Insurance, PURE’s recommended insurance carrier for property and casualty, life and disability insurance, as well as financial protection service. Orchestra, LLC and WorldPay will provide refreshments during the event, while Colonial Oil has signed on as a sponsor of the Annual Meeting as well.

The PURE Annual Stockholders Meeting has been held in previous years during the month of November, but last year the PURE Board of Directors elected to change the date of the event to allow for a complete review of Co-op activities for an entire calendar year. The organization’s By Laws allow for the Annual Stockholders Meeting to be held within the first quarter of the following year.

?image4 The Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center is located 1.5 miles from the front gate of Walt Disney World, and within just a few miles of several other Orlando, Florida theme parks. The hotel has 400,000 feet of flexible meeting space, including a 178,500 square-foot exhibit hall and a 4.5-acre indoor garden.

PURE welcomes Jarred Cail as CFO

He has the same first name as the Subway sandwich national spokesperson that made weight loss via the $5 dollar foot-long famous. But this “Jarred” specializes in keeping finances fit and business operations lean.

The PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative added a new professional to its staff at the Rock Hill headquarters this past December, when Jarred Cail joined the ranks as Chief Financial Officer.

Jarred brings a wealth of professional experience to the PURE Co-op, which he will put to good use as CFO, in addition to overseeing the back-end software and office administration for supply purchasing, distribution, and billing of PURE members once these arrangements of the new Co-op are in place.

Jarred comes to the PURE Co-op from his previous position as the CFO for Carolinas ACG and subsidiaries, which is the largest construction trade association in the Carolinas. While serving in this capacity, he provided support services such as internet delivery of electronic plans for bidding, lobbying, workers compensation insurance, and workforce developments.

Prior to his work for Carolinas ACG, Jarred was the Controller for Info Tech, Inc. and its subsidiary BIDX, Inc., located in Gainesville, Florida. Info Tech and BIDX specialize in custom software development, implementation and support for state transportation agencies, expert testimony using statistical modeling, and internet subscription services facilitating bids between subcontractors and state agencies.

“Jarred provides the ideal skill set for what we were looking for in a professional to serve as CFO for the Co-op,” says Frank Dotson, PURE Co-op General Manager. “He understands how a Co-op operates, and he is comfortable working with complex, industry specific software applications like what we are implementing to oversee future supply arrangements for our membership.”

Jarred is a Gator at heart, having received his B.S. in Business Administration (Finance) and his Masters of Accounting from the University of Florida. He resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Passing the gavel: Davis Cosey takes the reigns as PURE President

Prior to passing the gavel to fellow Board Member Davis Cosey, PURE President Tim Allen gave his “State of the Cooperative” address to the Co-op membership during the annual Shareholders Meeting.

In his final address to the Co-op as President, Allen noted that although market conditions have changed, the Co-op has come a long way in 2010, with the highlight being the preparations that are being made to submit requests for proposals to potential suppliers. In order to do so, the PURE Board of Directors retained the services of Professional Energy Management to consult the Co-op throughout this process of transforming it from a “price taker to a price maker.”

The Co-op also has contracted with Orchestrated Fuels to provide a back office system and hired No Sky Solutions as an IT consultant as well.

“A special thanks goes out to Johnny Fair for his hard work in the back office system selection, as well as Craig Lynch, Davis Cosey, Dennis Combs, and others, who all were very involved in the process,” says Allen.

Combs has led the efforts of the Co-op to establish credit, which is necessary for it to be able to purchase (product/supply) as one entity on behalf of its members. The capital needs of the Co-op are expected to be much less than what was originally anticipated – good news for Co-op members making preparations to invest.

“Over the course of the next year, you will see a lot of improvements to the Co-op,” concluded Allen.

The election results are in for the five open spots on the 15-member PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative Board of Directors. Four board members return to continue their service, while one newcomer joins their ranks. The Board also selected a new slate of officers to lead the Co-op in 2011.

Following the vote of the entire PURE membership, the Co-op has filled each of the five district openings on its Board of Directors. The election results include the following Board Members who now begin their three-year terms of office.

• Johnny Fair, with Louisville Tire/Fair Oil Company in Louisville, Mississippi, has been re-elected to represent District 1.

• Mac Campbell, with Campbell Oil Company in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, was elected again to represent District 2.

• Davis Cosey, of Davis Oil Company in Perry, Georgia, who is the new PURE President, has been re-elected to represent District 3.

• Stephanie Hinton, with Jim Hinton Oil Company in Live Oak, Florida and Valdosta, Georgia, is a first-time board member representing District 4.

• And Tim Allen, with Allen Oil Company in Sylacauga, Alabama, who is the Past President of the Co-op, has been re-elected to represent District 5.
?image2
In addition to Davis Cosey being selected by his fellow board members to serve as President of the PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative for 2011, Mac Campbell will serve as Vice President, Buck Grist, of Grist Oil Company in Blakely, Georgia, will serve as Treasurer, and James Frank Bundrant, of Bundrant Car Care in Waynesboro, Tennessee, will serve as Secretary this year.

Cosey, who chairs the Executive Committee as President of the Co-op, also selected a great group to serve as chairmen of the current standing committees of the organization. Buck Grist is chairing the Finance Committee in 2011, while Mac Campbell chairs the Marketing Committee, Tim Allen the Nominating Committee, Buddy Lisle the Personnel Committee, Jeremy Holmes the Planning Committee, Clayton Hooks the Supply Committee, and Johnny Fair the Back Office Committee.

Finally, during the annual Stockholders Meeting, President Cosey noted that the PURE Co-op Board of Directors is pursuing a Five-Year Business Plan, which includes an outline of goals and objectives currently under consideration.

PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative Annual Stockholders Meeting builds momentum for 2011

The PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative members, staff and vendors met in Charleston, South Carolina at the Doubletree Hotel in November for the 2010 Annual Stockholders Meeting. The two-day event featured a golf outing and an opening dinner and reception on Friday, followed by Saturday’s breakfast, shareholders meeting and fourth quarter meeting of the PURE Board of Directors.

The golf outing, sponsored by JWA Public Communications, with contributions from Colonial Oil and RBS Worldpay, was held at The Links at Stono Ferry golf course, which is home to the College of Charleston men’s golf team. Special thanks go out to Charleston’s head men’s golf coach Mark McEntire and his wife Meredith, who is the director of sales at Stono Ferry. The McEntires helped secure lunches, tee times, and prizes for all participants.

“The golf tournament was a great success, primarily because it allowed members, staff, and vendors, an opportunity to fellowship together and get to know one another outside of our business involvement in the Co-op,” says Chris Wood, president of JWA.
?image2
Finishing in first place at the golf outing was the team of Harold Kennedy, with Rex Oil in Thomasville, North Carolina; Greg Rogers, with Rogers Oil in Columbia, Mississippi; and Rick Belford of Colonial Oil Industries, Inc. The winning group won a tie breaker with the second place team of John Strickland, with Wayne Oil Company in Goldsboro, North Carolina; Stan Whitfield, with Whitfield Oil Company in Chickamauga, Georgia; and Scott Gordon of RSB Worldpay.

The Friday evening opening reception and dinner was sponsored by TransMontaine, Inc. Saturday’s breakfast was sponsored by Professional Energy Management, and Fuel Power Marketing sponsored refreshments throughout the day on Saturday, during the stockholders meeting and PURE board meeting that followed.
?image3
Members in attendance also had a chance to visit with preferred vendors who provided table top displays of their products and services. Those represented included Cobb & Cobb Promotions, Fuel Power Marketing, LION Uniforms, and others.
?image4
“We enjoyed a very successful stockholders meeting, which is always a special time for us to get together in a relaxing environment to reflect upon the year and share ideas as we look forward to the future of the Co-op,” says Frank Dotson, general manager of the PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative.

PURE Co-op continues progress toward petroleum “inventory independence”

The long-term strategic plan of the PURE Co-op includes, foremost, protecting the business interests of its members – more specifically, the competitive price of the petroleum pumping through their retail outlets and wholesale operations, says Tim Allen, Immediate Past President of the PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative.

Progress continues on that front, as leaders from the PURE Board of Directors attempt to improve the organization’s competitive advantage by becoming a (supply) price maker, rather than a price taker.

The Co-op’s supply and finance committees, with the more recent help of consultants from Professional Energy Management (PEM), have been active on several fronts, from obtaining the necessary financing, to implementing the back office administrative capabilities necessary for the purchase and distribution of product among PURE oil jobbers.

But first the Co-op membership had to approve the plan by adopting a resolution to amend the PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws. The resolution went before the PURE membership during the annual shareholders’ meeting in Charleston in November. A majority vote in favor during the annual meeting now allows the Co-op to move forward with the next steps in the process.

Following more than a year of research and planning, the PURE Co-op Board of Directors determined that it was in the best interest of the membership to alter the way PURE provides product to its shareholders. The ultimate goal is to have the Co-op directly purchase product to resell to shareholders, leveraging the collective volume demand of Co-op members to obtain more favorable product pricing from competing suppliers.

In order to do so, PURE must raise significant amounts of additional capital and/or pledges of letters of credit from member shareholders. The Co-op’s leadership, while campaigning to establish the organization’s credit worthiness, has located a potential source for financing.

In addition, after receiving bids from several potential vendors, the Co-op has likewise identified a qualified contractor to provide the back-office solution necessary to support the requirements of the organization if/when it restructures to function as a purchasing agent.

For more information on this exciting but challenging process to enhance the capabilities of the Co-op and growth potential of the PURE brand, members can contact their district sales manager, who can provide a complete overview and details of the capitalization and restructuring plan.

PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative headed to Charleston for Shareholders' Meeting

Members of the PURE Oil Jobbers Cooperative, Inc. are gathering for their Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in Charleston, South Carolina during the weekend of Nov. 12-13, 2010. The event is being held downtown in the historic district at the Charleston Doubletree Guest Suites on Church Street.

The Agenda of the annual meeting begins with a golf outing on Friday morning, sponsored by Jim Wood & Associates (JWA). The group outing will be held at The Links at Stono Ferry, which is the home golf course of the College of Charleston Golf Team. On Friday evening, Co-op members will gather for a cocktail reception and dinner to follow, thanks to event sponsor TransMontaigne, Inc.

The business of the Co-op will be conducted on Saturday, beginning with breakfast, which is being sponsored by Professional Energy Management (PEM), followed by the shareholders’ meeting and the fourth quarter meeting of the PURE Board of Directors. Fuel Power Marketing and Colonial Oil Industries are sponsoring refreshments during the business meetings on Saturday.

All members are encouraged to attend the annual meeting, and participation is critical at the annual shareholders’ meeting especially, says Frank Dotson, general manager of the PURE Co-op. That’s when the Co-op membership will seek to finalize the revisions to its By-laws and Articles of Incorporation through Resolution that must be approved by a majority stockholder vote.

?image2

During the annual shareholders’ meeting on Saturday, the Co-op membership will also receive updates on the capitalization plan of the Co-op leadership, specifically the finance committee, as well as news and information on supply arrangements being discussed with current suppliers, with the help of consultants from PEM. Additional approved vendors of PURE also will be on hand during the Saturday business meetings, to educate petroleum marketers/oil jobbers on products and services available to them through their membership in the Co-op.

Charleston is a popular destination for business and fellowship for PURE Co-op members and their families. Guests will have opportunities to dine at outstanding restaurants, shop at national retailers, enjoy art and antique galleries, as well as visit historical and tourist sites that include Fort Sumter, the South Carolina Aquarium, and much more.

“This is the one time during the year that our members can gather for fellowship, while attending to Co-op business,” says Dotson. “Charleston is an ideal city with lots to do, conveniently located near our hotel, as we hope this will be an attractive destination and occasion for our members to enjoy.”

Lion uniforms are “fueling awareness” of breast cancer prevention

PURE members benefit from having access to some of the best products and services in the industry, thanks to a number of vendors who have been approved for conducting business with the Oil Jobbers Cooperative. Some of these vendors are new, or have new offerings available for PURE members to explore.

Lion Uniforms is the primary uniform and apparel provider for PURE members, and the company added a few new items to its catalog this year. Already receiving interest from PURE oil jobbers is the Lion Uniform “Fueling Awareness” campaign, featuring a specially designed pink ribbon and logo that is included on various clothing and uniform selections.

The Fueling Awareness campaign is designed to increase breast cancer awareness, and samples of Lion Uniforms with the Fueling Awareness embroidery are available to PURE members. Samples were recently on display at the NACS convention in Atlanta in early October, which was breast cancer awareness month, as well as being featured at the PURE annual meeting in November.

Lion Uniform’s contact is Megan Radford at 937-873-4511, for more information.
